On May 09, municipal company Infralobo will unveil a shared-use electric bicycle solution. This is the latest project of this company, figuring within the Municipal Strategy for Adapting to Climate Change (EMAAC) of the Municipality of Loulé.
The smart resort concept, which was kicked off in March 2017 with the launch of the Infralobo Smart Management platform, has now evolved into the sustainable mobility sector, through the acquisition of a system that includes 30 latest-generation electric bikes.
Distributed strategically along the shared cycle path, in an initial phase the project features five bicycle stations, which will be located at the resort reception, in the ‘Praça’, at the Tennis Academy, by the Vale do Lobo supermarket and next to the Dunas Douradas reception. Users will also be able to leave the bicycles in virtual porticos in the event the desired station is full and/or the need arises to create a one-off station.
According to the President of the Board of Directors of Infralobo, Fátima Catarina, “The Smart Bikes by Infralobo project aims to promote the bicycles’ use over shorter distances, helping reduce the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere and improve air quality, a principle of environmental sustainability that is also being applied in other areas. Users will be able to do so for free until the end of the summer. This is just one of many innovations planned for 2018, and part of the shared strategy of Infralobo and Loulé Municipal Council."
Part of the EMAAC programme, the Smart Bikes project aims to strengthen measures taken by the municipality with regard to environmental sustainability, to improving quality of life and to contributing to global decarbonisation. “Mobility management thus takes on particular importance at a local level; the definition and implementation of some of the important measures are within the local authority’s power, in particular adapting urban space to soft modes of mobility, which is a commitment and a priority of the municipality of Loulé,” explains Vítor Aleixo, Loulé’s mayor.
